These terms are an agreement between you and Benedict John Feole ("Sortr", "we", "us"), which runs the Sortr website at sortr.online. By creating an account or using Sortr, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Sortr.

1. What Sortr does

Sortr is a web app that sorts the photos and videos you have downloaded to your own computer into folders, and gives each one a descriptive file name. It runs in your web browser (Chrome or Edge on a Mac or PC). To decide where each photo goes, your browser sends a small preview of it through our server to an artificial-intelligence service (currently OpenAI). Sortr never connects to your Apple Account or iCloud.

2. Your account

  • You sign in with your email address and a one-time code. Keep access to that email secure; anyone who can read it can sign in to your account.
  • You must be at least 18 to buy a plan, and at least 13 to use Sortr at all.
  • One account per person. Your plan, folders and progress are tied to your email.

3. Your photos and files

  • You keep all rights to your photos. We don't claim any ownership of them.
  • You give us permission to process the small previews of your photos, only to sort and name them for you, and to pass them to our AI provider for that purpose. We don't keep the previews, and no person at Sortr looks at them.
  • You confirm you have the right to process the photos you choose, including photos of other people.
  • Moving files. Unless you choose a folder that iCloud keeps in sync, Sortr moves each photo from the folder you choose into your new folders. A photo is removed from its old folder only after its new copy has been written and checked as complete. From folders that iCloud keeps in sync, Sortr only copies. Sortr never changes anything in iCloud or on your phone.
  • Keep a backup. Your computer, disk, browser or connection can fail in ways we can't control. Before sorting a library you care about, we strongly recommend keeping a backup (for example, your photos stay in iCloud).

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • process any content that is illegal, including any sexual content involving minors, which we will report to the authorities where the law requires;
  • use Sortr to sort or label people by their race, ethnicity, health, religion or sexuality based on how they look;
  • try to break, overload, copy or reverse-engineer Sortr, or get around its limits or payments;
  • use Sortr to send anything harmful through our servers.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.

5. AI results

Sorting and naming are done by AI. It is usually right, but it can be wrong. When it isn't confident, a photo goes in a "Review" folder instead of being guessed. You are responsible for checking the results that matter to you.

6. Plans, prices and payment

  • The first 50 photos are free.
  • Plans are one-time purchases, not subscriptions. Nothing renews. Unused photos stay on your account.
  • When you start a paid sort, we place a hold on your card for your plan. The card is charged only once 10% of your library has sorted successfully. If sorting fails before then, the hold is released and you pay nothing.
  • Photos bought from your Account page, and re-sorts, are charged when you pay.
  • Adding folders is free before sorting starts. Re-checking photos already sorted for new folders ("re-sorting") is a flat fee shown before you pay.
  • Prices are shown on the website before you pay and may change for future purchases. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
  • Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy.

7. Availability and changes

We work to keep Sortr running, but we don't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change, pause or stop features. If we stop Sortr entirely, we will refund unused photos you paid for.

8. Disclaimer

Sortr is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties beyond those in these terms, including about fitness for a particular purpose or that results will be accurate.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

10. Ending your account

You can stop using Sortr at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing hello@sortr.online. We may close accounts that break these terms.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If we make a significant change, we will post it on the website and, where appropriate, email you. Using Sortr after a change means you accept the new terms.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States. Disputes will be handled in the courts of New York County, New York, unless the law where you live says otherwise.
